The needs of persons with disabilities have been taken into account at WUF13.
elchi reports that this was stated to APA by the President of the World Blind Union, Santosh Kumar Rungta.
“The forum is very well organized. The event is quite accessible, and I believe that the needs of various disability groups have been taken into account,” he noted.
Santosh Kumar Rungta stated that their main expectation from the international forum is for governments to make concrete commitments in political declarations regarding the creation of an inclusive and accessible environment.
He noted that the living environment, public services, and transport systems should be accessible to all segments of society.
According to Santosh Kumar Rungta, this approach should take into account the needs of various disability groups, elderly people, women, children, youth, and low-income population groups: “Public services, transport systems, and public facilities should be accessible in a way that meets the needs of various disability groups, elderly persons, women, children, and other vulnerable groups.”
Santosh Kumar Rungta emphasized that access to decent housing and income opportunities is of great importance for people to live a dignified life: “People should have access to housing that ensures their dignity and creates adequate income opportunities for their livelihood.”
