NATO wants to restore shipping in the Strait of Hormuz

If the situation regarding the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz is not resolved by July, NATO members will consider the option of launching a mission to assist ships in passing through this route.

“Elchi” reports that Bloomberg has provided this information, citing a source.

“According to a high-ranking NATO official, the possibility of assisting ships in passing through the Strait of Hormuz is being discussed within the alliance if the blockade is not lifted by early July,” the agency reported.

It was previously noted that operations in the strait area would be conducted after military actions in the region conclude and a broad coalition involving many non-NATO countries is formed.

However, economic difficulties continue to deepen. According to a diplomat from a NATO country, several members of the alliance currently support the idea of creating a mission to stabilize the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, but there is no unanimous support. Some NATO members have stated they are currently against this initiative, but would support it if the blockade remains in effect.

Bloomberg reminds that the US has not previously sent an official request to NATO to participate in any activities related to the Strait of Hormuz.
