Trump and Xi in Beijing: Middle East, Taiwan, and trade issues on the agenda

It is expected that during today’s meeting in China, US President Donald Trump will discuss the war in the Middle East, the Taiwan issue, and bilateral trade and economic matters with his counterpart Xi Jinping.
“Elchi” reports that US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing, the capital of China, late last night with a large delegation including political staff and business representatives.
Today, a state ceremony for President Trump will be held at Tiananmen Square, where the Great Hall of the People, China’s parliament, is located. After the ceremony, Trump will hold bilateral and delegation-level meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In addition to bilateral trade and economic issues, the meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping will also cover the war that began with US and Israeli attacks on Iran, as well as the situation in Taiwan, which is in a sovereignty dispute with China.
Bilateral trade and economic issues
In a statement issued before the visit, the White House stated that the US side expects to reach new agreements in the fields of aviation, agriculture, and energy during the visit.
There is a possibility that contracts will be signed for China to purchase Boeing passenger aircraft, soybeans, and liquefied natural gas from the US.
Relations between the US and China have been complicated by a series of disagreements that have expanded during Trump’s second term. On one hand, the Washington administration has imposed tariff increases and technology restrictions, while on the other, China has taken steps to control rare earth elements, for which it supplies a large part of the global market.
The parties will focus on maintaining the temporary agreement reached by the leaders of the two countries during their meeting in Busan, South Korea, last October regarding tariffs, export controls, and other contentious points. They will also discuss continuing cooperation in the field of narcotics, particularly fentanyl and its precursors, which have caused an addiction epidemic in the US, as well as artificial intelligence security and proposals for the creation of a “Trade Council” and an “Investment Council” to resolve less sensitive trade and economic issues between the two countries.
