Səbuhi Abbasov, Chairman of the Azerbaijan-Slavic Youth Association (ASGA), drew attention to the rights of Western Azerbaijanis and the issue of their safe and dignified return to their historical lands during his speech at the OSCE Human Dimension Conference in Warsaw.
In his speech, he emphasized that the principles of tolerance and non-discrimination cannot be fully realized without ensuring the fundamental rights of national minorities displaced from their homelands.
Səbuhi Abbasov stated that throughout the 20th century, hundreds of thousands of Western Azerbaijanis were subjected to systematic ethnic cleansing, violent expulsion, and forced deportation, depriving them of their homes, historical heritage, and national identity.
According to him, the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands in peace, security, and dignity is a fundamental human right based on international law. This return is not only a matter of restoring historical justice but also of crucial importance for ensuring genuine peace, regional stability, and lasting harmony in the South Caucasus.
The ASGA chairman called on the OSCE to encourage Armenia to engage in constructive and direct dialogue with the Western Azerbaijanis Community. He noted that a peaceful and systematic process supporting the safe and dignified return of people to their native lands can be a real indicator of commitment to the principles of tolerance, non-discrimination, and the universal protection of minority rights.
Səbuhi Abbasov’s speech once again highlighted the importance of keeping the rights of Western Azerbaijanis in focus on international platforms and resolving this issue through dialogue and peace.
