Azerbaijani wrestlers participating in the European Championship have returned to their homeland

The national freestyle wrestling team, which became European champions in the team standings by winning 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal at the European Championship held in Albania, has returned to Baku.

“Elchi” reports that the Azerbaijani national team was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by sports fans, representatives of the public, and members of the press.

It should be recalled that Azerbaijani wrestlers finished the European Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, with 13 medals. Nuraddin Novruzov (61 kg) lost to Italian Simone Piroddu in the match for third place. Turan Bayramov (74 kg) lost to Taimuraz Salkazanov (Slovakia) in the final, and Arseniy Dzhioev (86 kg) lost to Ibragim Kadiev (UWW), both taking silver medals. Ali Tsokaev (92 kg) defeated Ahmed Bataev (Bulgaria) in the final, and Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) defeated Vladislav Baitcaev (Hungary) to become European champions.

Earlier, Greco-Roman wrestlers Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) and Gurban Gurbanov (82 kg) became European champions. Rashad Mammadov (55 kg), Nihat Mammadli (60 kg), and Islam Abbasov (87 kg) won bronze medals. The Greco-Roman wrestling team took first place in the team standings.
