Thousands evacuated in Paris for disposal of World War II bomb

On Sunday, thousands of people were evacuated in the northern suburbs of Paris, the capital of France, for the disposal of a bomb dating back to World War II.
“Elchi” reports that due to the ammunition found in the Colombes area last month, residents were instructed to leave their homes by 7:00 AM local time on Sunday. As part of the police operation, residents within a 450-meter radius of the bomb’s location were evacuated.
According to French media, after an attempt to remove the device’s fuse failed, authorities detonated the historical ammunition on-site in a controlled explosion. A statement from the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture reported that the operation was successfully completed and the evacuation order was lifted in the evening.
Found during construction work
The bomb was discovered on April 10 during construction work on Rue des Champarons. Authorities secured the area, covered the ammunition with sand, and began preparations for the disposal process.
Speaking before the operation, local official Alexandre Brugère stated that the operation was risky and required a high level of preparation. Approximately 800 police officers were mobilized to monitor the evacuation zone. In a wider area within a one-kilometer radius of the bomb, residents’ movement was restricted, but they were allowed to remain indoors.
Emergency alerts were sent to residents, reminding them that they would not be allowed to return to their homes until the operation was completed. Reception centers were set up for the evacuated citizens, and support was provided to vulnerable residents in need of medical assistance.
