Pope responds to Trump: Billions of dollars are spent on war

Pope Leo, during his visit to Cameroon as part of his African tour, harshly criticized leaders who spend billions of dollars on wars. Stating that the world is being “devastated by a handful of tyrants,” the Pope reiterated his call for peace.
elchi reports that these words from the Pope came after high-level tensions with US President Donald Trump. Trump recently targeted the Pope on social media, calling him “weak on crime and terrible on foreign policy.”
“Commanders ignore that destruction takes only a moment”
Speaking in Bamenda, a city in Cameroon suffering from conflicts, the Pope attacked the Trump administration and its pro-war policies without naming names. Pope Leo said: “Commanders ignore that destruction takes only a moment, but reconstruction sometimes takes a lifetime.” Criticizing leaders for spending billions of dollars on weapons while unable to find resources for basic needs such as education and healthcare, the Pope stated:
“Those who even manipulate the name of God for their own interests continue the cycle of instability and death by investing the resources of poor nations into weapons.”
Tensions between Trump and Iran continue
At the center of the tension between the Pope and Trump are the military operations of the US and Israel against Iran. Expressing his concern over Trump’s threat that “if Iran does not accept our demands, an entire civilization will be destroyed,” Pope Leo emphasized that war can never be justified by the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Leo, who was elected last year and is the first American-born Pope in history, stands out as one of the strongest opponents of Trump’s immigration and war policies, despite being born in Chicago.
On the other hand, Trump claimed that the Pope’s election was merely a “political maneuver,” as he himself was in the White House.
