A telephone conversation took place between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.
“Elchi” reports this citing the Turkish press.
The heads of state discussed the ceasefire between Iran and the US, as well as the security situation in the region.
Erdogan stated that Turkey, together with a number of other countries, has made great efforts in the process leading to the ceasefire.
The Turkish leader noted the importance of making maximum use of the negotiations starting in a few days for lasting peace and stability. He emphasized that Turkey is ready to provide all kinds of contributions together with friendly countries in the new process.
Erdogan also expressed his condolences to his counterpart regarding the losses of the Iranian people. He pointed out that Turkey’s goal is to create a new environment of common sense and dialogue in the region.
It should be recalled that the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. As a result, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a number of high-ranking officials were killed. Following this, Iran began striking targets identified in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, and Cyprus, where military bases of the US and its allies are located, in addition to Israel.
Iran, the US, and their allies reached an agreement on a two-week ceasefire on the night of April 8, 2026. Iran stated that during this period, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be ensured in coordination with the country’s Armed Forces and taking into account technical limitations.
