Our country, ensuring its economic power, is today a significant stakeholder in Europe’s energy sector as a reliable partner. At the same time, Azerbaijan is in the international spotlight as a safe and sustainable transit country for energy resources.
The holding of the 12th ministerial meeting within the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council and the 4th ministerial meeting within the Green Energy Advisory Council at the Baku Congress Center was remembered as a logical continuation of this strategic line. These meetings once again demonstrate the consistency of Azerbaijan’s energy policy and the importance it attaches to international cooperation. Work towards the balanced and sustainable development of renewable energy and the further diversification of energy connections at the regional level is entering an important phase. These initiatives strengthen our country’s strategic role in energy security and highlight Azerbaijan as a reliable partner in the green energy transition.
“Elchi” reports that these views were expressed by Rashad Mahmudov, a member of the Milli Majlis.
He noted that President Ilham Aliyev, with his speech at the event, once again declared the main directions of our country’s energy policy.
In his speech, the Head of State presented the priority directions of our country’s energy policy and the results achieved, noting that cooperation in the field of energy security and sustainable energy supply has strengthened during the past period within the framework of the Advisory Council’s annual meetings. The number of consumer countries for Azerbaijani gas has increased from 12 to 16 in recent years, and in this area, the country is one of the world leaders. The President also stated that gas supplies have been expanded to Europe and Syria, which significantly contributes to energy security in the region. Furthermore, in the coming years, plans include increasing gas production from new fields, expanding the Southern Gas Corridor, and further increasing export opportunities to the European market.
Additionally, Azerbaijan is expanding investments in alternative energy sources, including wind, solar, and hydropower projects. The President noted that by 2032, 6-8 gigawatts of electricity will be produced from alternative energy sources, and this potential will be utilized for both domestic demand and export. The Head of our country also touched upon cooperation with the US in energy, artificial intelligence, and other fields in accordance with the Strategic Partnership Charter, as well as the development of hydropower projects in the territories liberated from Armenian occupation, emphasizing the importance of implementing concrete projects and strengthening mutual cooperation in this direction.
The deputy concluded by stating that Azerbaijan is an interested party in sound cooperation. As the Head of State noted, we intend to expand our presence in the European energy market. Azerbaijan has proven itself as a sincere partner in all economic and political cooperation. Such sincere partnership in cooperation is also an important condition for states utilizing our country’s economic potential.
