The High Authority for Communication (HAC) in Gabon has announced the suspension of access to social media platforms within the country until further notice.

The HAC’s statement states that access to social media within the country has been immediately suspended until further notice is read on Gabon’s state television RTG1.
The statement said the decision was made due to the spread of content that violates existing laws and regulations, in particular offensive, degrading, hate speech messages and disinformation that could harm the institutions of the Republic, national unity and public order.
The statement emphasized that freedom of expression is guaranteed, but must be exercised in strict compliance with existing legal and regulatory texts.
The statement calls on technical operators, internet service providers and digital platforms to comply with the decision immediately, and the public was called upon to remain calm, responsible and respectful of the institutions of the Republic.
