Peru’s interim President Jeri removed from office

The Congress of Peru has removed interim President Jose Jeri, who replaced former President Dina Boluarte, from office.
“Elchi” reports that in a Congress session held in the capital Lima, right-wing politician Jeri was removed from office with 75 votes in favor, 24 votes against, and 3 abstentions.
According to the Peruvian press, the reasons for Jeri’s removal were his semi-secret meetings with Chinese businessmen doing business with the state and allegations of irregularities in the hiring of some state officials.
The conservative parties, which have a majority in Congress, withdrew their support for Jeri, whom they initially supported, after the investigations against him caused criticism.
With Congress making this decision two months before the elections, Jeri became the 8th president to be removed from office since 2016.
The Congress of Peru will elect a new member of parliament today to chair the Assembly. The elected person will exercise presidential powers until July 28.
In its last vote, Congress removed former President Dina Boluarte from office on the grounds of “permanent moral incompetence” as of October 10, 2025.
