Nipah virus detected in bats in Thailand

Thai bats are carriers of the Nipah virus.

Elchi.az reports that the Bangkok Post writes about this with reference to the Ministry of Health of the Kingdom.

According to the ministry, the virus is carried only by some bats, and the biggest danger comes from infected people from the countries at the epicenter of the disease.

Deputy Minister of Health Sofon Iamsirita Uorn told reporters that the Nipah virus has been detected in fruit-eating bats in Thailand, but the concentration of the virus is not as high as in countries where epidemics have occurred.

“There have been no confirmed cases of the disease in Thailand. There is concern in other countries, especially Bangladesh and West Bengal, India. Although these countries are far from Thailand, it is necessary to monitor, because there are direct flights from those countries to Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and Phuket airports,” he said.

Officials noted that screening of passengers arriving from the listed countries continues at these airports.

Earlier, an epidemic of an incurable disease occurred in India.

The Nipah virus can manifest itself as both asymptomatic infection and acute respiratory diseases. Its symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, and sore throat, and in severe cases, inflammation of the brain can occur, which can lead to coma within two days.
