Merz will not participate in the signing ceremony of the “Peace Council” charter

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will not participate in the signing ceremony of the “Peace Council” charter on the management of Gaza, which will be held in Davos.

Elchi.az reports that this was announced to journalists by Steffen Mayer, a representative of the German government.

He stated that Mers’ non-participation in the ceremony is due to the Chancellor’s work schedule. “The German Chancellor will leave Davos immediately after his speech on Thursday morning, as preliminary talks are planned in Brussels. This means that the ceremony for the creation of the ‘Peace Council’ will take place after the Chancellor has already left,” Mayer said. According to him, the US side was informed about this in advance.

At the same time, the representative of the German government emphasized that Germany is grateful for the invitation sent to join the council. “We share the goal of serving peace in this region. In particular, we want to contribute to a sustainable settlement of the conflict in Gaza. Accordingly, we are investigating this proposal and will definitely respond in due course,” Mayer noted.
