US President Donald Trump’s anger against his NATO allies – due to their refusal to join the war against Iran – has so far yielded one result: it has united NATO countries against him.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in an article in the “Politico” publication.
As the publication notes, in informal meetings, dinners, and behind the scenes in Brussels and other cities, European leaders and government officials are discussing how they will react to Trump’s threats to withdraw from NATO and what they will do if these threats materialize.
“In the current situation, they share such a bleak conclusion that Trump’s increasingly aggressive attacks against Great Britain, Spain, France, and other countries indicate a fundamental break in the transatlantic alliance,” the article states.
It is reported that, although the final decision is not yet clear, some countries are already trying to expand their defense and security agreements, considering NATO’s possible collapse.
“NATO is paralyzed, they can’t even hold meetings. It is clear that NATO is already collapsing,” an unnamed European diplomat told the publication.
An EU representative, however, believes that Europe urgently needs to strengthen its defense:
“We cannot wait for the organization to completely disappear.”
