Kamran Aliyev: Azerbaijan’s Accession to the Mecca Convention Precisely Now is of Great Importance

Today, Azerbaijan joined the “Mecca Al-Mukarramah Convention on Cooperation between Law Enforcement Agencies of the OIC Member States in Combating Corruption”.

elchi reports that Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev stated this in his remarks to journalists.

He noted that this is a convention within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation that reflects the fight against corruption.

“The Convention was adopted in 2012 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Republic of Azerbaijan actively participated in the preparation and adoption of this convention. We had participated in both previous conferences. Yesterday and today, the third high-level Summit of anti-corruption bodies of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was held in Baku. Within the framework of this meeting, as you know, the Republic of Azerbaijan, along with other countries, joined this convention and has already signed it. We hope that this convention will be ratified in the near future, and subsequently, the provisions of this convention will be implemented into Azerbaijani legislation.

Azerbaijan’s accession to this convention precisely now is of great importance because Azerbaijan will chair this organization starting next year. During this period, I hope that Azerbaijan will carry out effective cooperation with all member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which is native to Azerbaijan, in all areas, including the fight against corruption.

This once again demonstrates the political will of the head of state, the esteemed Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, in the fight against corruption. We have joined all conventions, both UN conventions and other regional and international conventions in this field. The Mecca Convention is a new platform in this regard. I believe that our activities in this area will be successful.”
