It is proposed to reduce by one year the period of service in military rank for officers who have completed master’s, residency, or doctoral studies in Azerbaijan.
elchi reports that this issue is reflected in the draft laws “On the approval of the Statute on Military Service” and “On Military Duty and Military Service”, which were put forward for discussion at the plenary session of the Milli Majlis.
According to the draft, the period of service in military rank will be reduced by one year for officers who have successfully completed master’s or residency programs, or who have completed doctoral or postgraduate studies and obtained the relevant academic degree, at the order of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan and other state bodies where military service is envisaged.
The concession will be applied once for each of the above-mentioned levels of higher education.
According to the draft law, the service period in the rank of lieutenant is reduced from two years to one year for some military personnel. Thus, this period is set at two years for military personnel who have graduated from special educational institutions with a five-year study period, and one year for those serving in aviation flight crews and submarines. In other relevant cases, the period in the rank of lieutenant will also be one year.
According to the draft, the concession regarding the reduction of the period of service in rank for officers who have completed master’s, residency, or doctoral (postgraduate) studies under the relevant conditions will also apply to those who completed such studies before the law comes into force.
The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
