Ukraine is considering three options to ensure the country’s security after the war ends.
elchi reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this at a press conference in Kyiv on October 22.
According to him, security guarantees must be considered comprehensively. These options include NATO membership, direct security guarantees from the US, and support from a “Coalition of the Willing” that provides European security guarantees.
Zelensky noted that these guarantees must be based on a strong Ukrainian army. This requires increasing both the personnel numbers and combat capability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as allocating significant financial resources.
The President of Ukraine emphasized that NATO membership is one of the possible options for security guarantees. In his opinion, Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance is important for both NATO and Ukraine.
“We believe this is important. Our army is important for NATO, and at the same time, NATO is very important for Ukraine’s security. We are not discussing this in detail yet, but we are holding discussions with our partners. I think, frankly speaking, Russia also needs Ukraine’s membership in NATO. Because it can provide greater security than Ukraine remaining outside the Alliance,” Zelensky added.
