NATO will allow Ukraine to acquire cheaper weapons

NATO will allow Ukraine to purchase weapons, ammunition, and military equipment through a centralized procurement agency, which will enable Kyiv to acquire defense resources faster and at a more affordable price.

elchi reports that “Financial Times” (FT) wrote about this.

Ukraine is entering into a partnership with NATO’s Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), which will bring its defense industry closer to Western allies and provide it with an additional procurement channel, rather than relying solely on bilateral negotiations.

“This allows Ukraine to benefit from a more structured system to leverage the broad capabilities we offer: procurement expertise, support services, and access to a well-established industrial base,” NSPA Director of Operations Support Jacqueline Borsboom told “FT”.

This move comes at a time when Ukraine’s relations with the US are at an all-time low. The US president has criticized Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries. US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday as part of a move towards rapprochement with Russia, raising concerns among Kyiv’s allies.

“Savings will be achieved. For example, Ukraine can say, ‘we need 30,000 uniforms, and we want you to procure them for us,'” Borsboom noted.

Last week, NSPA organized an industry event in Kyiv with the participation of about 150 Ukrainian companies, explaining how manufacturers can register as eligible suppliers and bid for contracts.
