Serbia does not want to oppose Russia and seeks to maintain neutrality in the Ukraine conflict, which hinders Europe and irritates its political elite.
elchi reports that this was stated by former Serbian leader Aleksandar Vucic in an interview with Ksenia Sobchak.
“I have no issues with Europe. I have never done anything against Russia, and I will never do anything against it. But even someone who is neutral hinders Europeans. They want everyone to speak in unison, to have the same opinion, and to present a united front against Russia. But I do not want to oppose Russia,” Vucic said.
Vucic also emphasized that this is not what Serbs themselves want; they are in favor of maintaining relations with Russia, and European politicians are so displeased with this fact that they perceive Serbia’s position as a disruption of unity.
Vucic had previously said that he once visited Russian leader Vladimir Putin and gave him an icon. He stated that it was an ancient icon from the 17th century, that it was wanted, and that he wanted to bring it to the Russian president. The former Serbian leader added that Putin even sat at the piano during the reception.
