Rubio: Trump temporarily suspended new sanctions against Russia to give negotiations a chance.
elchi reports that US President Donald Trump has halted the imposition of new sanctions against Russia to see if ongoing negotiations with Moscow and Kyiv will prevent the conflict from escalating. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told journalists about this, according to the “RIA Novosti” agency.
Rubio stated: “He decided to suspend the sanctions for 60 days because he wants to see if there will be a positive outcome from the ongoing negotiations with both Ukraine and Russia, and whether the war will be prevented from escalating.”
Previously, the US Secretary of State had noted that the American leader intends to use this 60-day period to assess the impact of “hell sanctions,” which involve applying duties of up to 500% on all goods imported from Russia. He emphasized that these restrictions would affect not only Russia but also other countries, including India; therefore, the US administration needs to assess the economic consequences before taking any further steps.
