Even though the residents of Kalbajar have gone through severe tragedies, they have never lost their determination, faith, and dignity.
Teleqraf‘s correspondent sent to Karabakh reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, stated this at the opening of the Honey Festival in Kalbajar.
Hikmet Hajiyev spoke about the tragedies experienced by the residents of Kalbajar. He pointed out that Ganja was one of the first places where our compatriots displaced from Kalbajar found refuge:
“They arrived in Ganja barefoot, bareheaded, helpless, and without food. One of the first points where they were accommodated at that time was the dormitory of the Ganja State Technological University. I still remember those days with a great sense of tragedy. Despite my young age, I remember well how the residents of Kalbajar arrived in Ganja during those snowy and frosty days. We must never forget historical facts, especially the Tunnel tragedy. At the exit of the tunnel, the gang of Armenian terrorist Monte Melkonian set an ambush and committed a brutal massacre against civilians on the scale of Khojaly. Tragic events occurred, such as our Kalbajar sisters throwing themselves into the Tartar River to protect their honor and dignity. It is difficult for all of us to talk about these things.
But it is very proud that those painful days are now in the past. Today, as a result of the President’s policy, we are in our native Kalbajar. I could not have imagined that this place would be so beautiful. Kalbajar is being rebuilt, revived, and is becoming one of the most beautiful cities in our country and even in the world.”
At the end of his speech, Hikmet Hajiyev thanked the residents for the high hospitality shown to foreign diplomats in Kalbajar and congratulated them on the next stage of restoration.
