The number of active satellites in the American “Starlink” orbital constellation, which provides global internet coverage, has exceeded 11.1 thousand.
“Elchi” reports that this is stated in the data provided by “SpaceX”, the company that developed the project.
It is noted that after the launch of the next group of satellites last Sunday, the number of active satellites reached 11,133.
In total, since May 2019, “SpaceX” has launched more than 12.9 thousand internet satellites into orbit as part of the “Starlink” project. Some of them have gone out of service or deorbited.
Since the beginning of the current year alone, “SpaceX” has launched approximately 2,000 “Starlink” satellites into orbit with the help of 80 “Falcon 9” rockets.
In the future, “SpaceX” plans to increase the orbital constellation to 12,000 active satellites to create a full-scale network. This network will allow providing broadband internet access to residents at any point on Earth. The total investment for the implementation of the project is estimated at 10 billion dollars.
Currently, the “Starlink” network covers more than 160 countries and territories around the world and provides high-speed internet to more than 10 million active customers.
