Umayra Taghiyeva: Extreme climate events have intensified over the last decade

In the last decade, the consequences of climate change have been observed globally through the intensification of extreme events.

“Elchi” reports that Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Taghiyeva stated this during her speech at a panel session held on the second day of the Fourth Climate Week (CW4) conference of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

She noted that the latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns of increased vulnerability to climate risks in urban areas of low- and middle-income countries.

“Severe and longer-lasting heatwaves in Europe, devastating floods in Nepal, and weather-climate anomalies in many countries around the world show how important it is to increase climate resilience in these processes. Our country is also facing climate risks,” she emphasized.
