The British government is preparing to announce new restrictions on goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and on trade involving these territories. Following reports of London’s sanction plans, harsh statements came from the far-right wing of the Israeli government.
“Elchi” reports that the British government is preparing to announce new restrictions on goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and on trade involving these territories.
The measures, expected to be announced in the House of Commons by Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, include sanctions covering the trade of goods and services, as well as agricultural products, coming from the settlements.
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirmed in a closed-door meeting with Labour Party MPs that he had informed international leaders and US President Donald Trump about the planned sanctions.
London stated its opposition to Israel’s tenders for the construction of approximately 1,200 illegal settlement units in the E1 area, which aims to isolate East Jerusalem, noting that this move threatens the prospect of a two-state solution and is a violation of international law.
