Approximately half of the students in Azerbaijan study in schools that lack textbooks, information technology equipment, library resources, and laboratory materials.
“Elchi” reports that this was stated in the results of the OECD’s PISA 2025 study for Azerbaijan.
According to the responses of school principals, 45 percent of 15-year-old students in the country study in schools where the shortage of teaching materials hinders the learning process to some extent.
This refers to a lack of textbooks, computers and other information technology equipment, library resources, and laboratory materials.
Meanwhile, 41 percent of students study in schools with inadequate physical infrastructure. This includes deficiencies related to school buildings and grounds, heating and cooling systems, lighting, and acoustic conditions.
The teacher shortage indicator in Azerbaijan is lower than the OECD average. 23 percent of students study in schools where a shortage of teachers hinders instruction. The average for OECD countries is 39 percent.
The share of students studying in schools where a shortage of support staff affects instruction is 26 percent in Azerbaijan, compared to an average of 39 percent in OECD countries.
Thus, the PISA results show that in Azerbaijan, teaching materials and school infrastructure pose more of a problem than staff shortages.
