The US is exploring the possibility of resuming negotiations between Ukraine and Russia this winter to de-escalate tensions and reach a comprehensive peace agreement.
“Elchi” reports that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated this in an interview with Axios.
According to him, Ukraine wants to resume the diplomatic process for resolving the conflict in September and October. It was noted that one of the possible platforms could be the UN General Assembly to be held in New York in late September.
Zelensky also did not rule out the possibility of a new trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia, but pointed out that there are no concrete agreements: “We have September and October to find any way to conduct negotiations. Without dialogue, we will have no results.”
According to the Ukrainian leader, the US is currently exploring the possibility of agreements on de-escalation this winter. However, Zelensky is not optimistic about this option and claims that Moscow intends to use the winter to strike Ukraine harder and force Kyiv into new concessions.
In addition, he noted that the influence of US President Donald Trump could play a decisive role in settling the conflict, as this could be a diplomatic victory for the White House leader before the elections.
