It is planned to transform the “Volkswagen” plant in the German city of Osnabrück into a defense industry production site.
“Elchi” reports, citing “Deutschlandfunk”, that “Volkswagen” will sell the enterprise to the federal state of Lower Saxony and the Israeli investor “Aurelius Capital”. After the planned cessation of car production in 2027, the site is intended to be gradually converted into a competence center for the defense industry.
In the coming years, the production of anti-aircraft missile systems by the Israeli manufacturer “Rafael”, which produces the “Iron Dome” air defense system, will begin there.
Previously, the “Financial Times” wrote that German automotive component manufacturers are more actively shifting towards sectors with higher growth prospects, including the defense industry.
