The start of a war by the US and Israel against Iran, and the current clashes between America and the Islamic Republic in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the closure of this waterway, have caused inflation worldwide.
“Elchi” reports that this issue was highlighted in the speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“We, like the rest of the world, are feeling the effects of the Iran-centered crisis in terms of inflation,” he stated, adding that oil prices have reached record levels globally.
According to Erdogan, the problem will not be solved unless an agreement is reached regarding the Strait of Hormuz:
“It seems that as long as the knot in the Strait of Hormuz remains untied, oil prices will cause difficulties for everyone. Everyone, whether involved or not, is paying the price for the war that began with Israel’s provocations.”
According to him, despite all this, the Turkish economy has maintained its growth momentum.
It should be recalled that on February 28, the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran, and airstrikes were carried out on a number of cities. On that same day, former Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes. In response, Iran attacked Israeli territory and US military bases in Persian Gulf countries.
Iran, the US, and their allies reached a ceasefire agreement on the night of April 8. Trump later extended the ceasefire indefinitely.
The parties held negotiations in Pakistan to resolve the conflict, but the first round held on April 11-12 yielded no results.
A memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran was signed digitally on June 18 by the leaders of both countries – Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian. However, on July 8, the US Central Command announced that a strike had been carried out against Iran in response to its attacks on three ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
On August 2, Trump announced that a planned new attack on Iran had been canceled on the condition that an agreement be reached. Although military clashes are currently ongoing, indirect negotiations regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz are being held, and there is no direct dialogue between the US and Iran.
