The Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian Navy to retaliate against attempts to seize Russian vessels.
“Elchi” reports that, according to the Kremlin, President Putin held a meeting with military officials in St. Petersburg on the occasion of Russian Navy Day. During the meeting, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Alexander Moiseyev and fleet commanders briefed Putin on the current operational situation and the tasks being carried out.
Addressing the naval personnel at the meeting, Putin drew attention to malicious actions targeting the Russian fleet, including merchant ships, and instructed them to retaliate against attempts to seize the vessels. Emphasizing that such acts of piracy must be countered within the framework of international maritime law but with extreme determination, Putin stated that he expects the countermeasures to be effective.
Touching upon the active role of Russian Navy elements in the conflict in Ukraine, Putin noted that naval infantry are constantly advancing and have secured control of more than 20 settlements this year alone. He added that they will continue to improve the capabilities of the Russian fleet and equip warships with the most modern weapon systems, highlighting the navy’s important role in the nuclear triad that constitutes the country’s nuclear deterrence capability.
