According to a YouGov survey conducted between June 17 and July 1 with 2,079 adults in Germany, 70% of participants do not believe that the German army can protect the country from a possible attack. The percentage of those who stated they trust the army remained at 21%, while 8% did not express an opinion.
Among the countries covered by the survey, Germany had the lowest level of trust in the army.
Most Germans are not interested in defense spending
40% of Germans participating in the survey stated that the country’s defense budget is insufficient. However, 77% of participants opposed tax increases to cover rising defense costs. 62% of participants stated they did not want cuts in public services to increase the defense budget, and 59% stated they did not want the government to take on more debt.
