It has been claimed that US President Donald Trump has approved a deal with Saudi Arabia that will “provide a civilian nuclear program and potentially pave the way for uranium enrichment.”
elchi reports that, according to information provided by the “Wall Street Journal” (WSJ) citing unnamed US officials, Trump has approved a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia.
The report, which estimates the new 30-year agreement to be worth tens of billions of dollars, claims that the deal will “provide Saudi Arabia with a civilian nuclear program and potentially pave the way for uranium enrichment.”
The report states that the goal is to give US companies a central role in the development of Saudi Arabia’s nuclear infrastructure and that, if deemed necessary as a result of a joint US-Saudi assessment, the agreement also includes the creation of uranium enrichment facilities in that country by American companies.
The report stated that this condition would give the US influence over Saudi Arabia’s nuclear program, and according to Trump administration officials, this condition has been defended as “a way to prevent the misuse of the nuclear program for military purposes.” The report also noted that the agreement is expected to be submitted to Congress in the coming days.
