On July 22, an event dedicated to National Press Day was held, organized by the Media Development Agency.
“Elchi” reports that the event began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Delivering the opening speech, Dağbəyi İsmayılov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Media Development Agency and Deputy Chairman of the Board of AZERTAC, stated that the 151-year development path of the Azerbaijani national press has played a significant role in the country’s socio-political and cultural life. It was noted that the media policy defined by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev is being successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev, and consistent measures are being taken to strengthen media independence, develop professional journalism, and ensure information security. It was emphasized that preserving the rich traditions of the national press and passing them on to future generations is one of the main tasks ahead.
Vüqar Rəhimzadə, a deputy of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and editor-in-chief of the “Iki Sahil” newspaper, stated that the main task of the Azerbaijani media is to form public opinion based on truth and to correctly convey the country’s realities to the world community. He noted that the Azerbaijani media responds adequately to modern challenges, and the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum once again demonstrated the role of media in the international information space. The deputy emphasized that, along with promptness, maintaining trust and increasing media literacy are of particular importance. Vüqar Rəhimzadə added that important reforms have been carried out in the media sector under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, and the activities of MEDIA and the Law “On Media” make a significant contribution to the development of professional journalism.

In her speech, Səadət Məmmədova, Deputy Chair of the Press Council of Azerbaijan, emphasized the importance of ethical journalism principles, professional solidarity, and cooperation among media entities in the modern media environment. It was noted that media representatives have important responsibilities in forming a reliable information environment and properly informing the society.
In his speech, Rafiq Həşimov, Deputy Chairman of the “Azerbaijan Television and Radio Broadcasting” CJSC, noted that television and radio, as an integral part of the Azerbaijani national press, play an important role in educating society, promoting national-moral values, and passing cultural heritage to future generations. He stated that in a rapidly changing information environment, the responsibility of the media is increasing, and professionalism, promptness, and public trust remain the core principles of this field.
