EU allows UK to participate in arms production orders for Ukraine

European Union countries have approved an agreement with the United Kingdom. This agreement allows British defense companies to accept arms production orders within the framework of a 90 billion euro military financing program for Ukraine.

elchi reports that this is stated in a statement by the EU Council.

“EU countries have today approved an agreement on the United Kingdom’s participation in the 90 billion euro European financing program to meet Ukraine’s urgent needs in 2026-2027 and enable it to continue the war with Russia,” the document notes.

This agreement was signed on July 13. As the European Commission previously explained, for the British defense-industrial complex to be able to receive military contracts from Ukraine under this EU program, the UK government must, for its part, pay a portion of the value of those contracts from British budget funds.

To receive each tranche of funding under this program, Kyiv is obliged to submit all arms supply contracts it intends to pay for within that tranche to the European Commission for approval. Only after the contracts are verified does the European Commission allocate the next portion of money. Currently, it has allocated two tranches to Kyiv totaling 4.9 billion euros.
