Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Chief of the General Staff Oleksandr Syrskyi and appointed Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander of the Joint Forces, in his place.
elchi reports that in his daily video address, Zelensky assessed the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine war.
He also stated that he met with high-ranking military officials and discussed planned changes in the Ukrainian General Staff.
Zelensky announced his decision to appoint Brigadier General Mykhailo Drapatyi, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Army, as the new Chief of the General Staff, replacing Oleksandr Syrskyi. Zelensky noted that Syrskyi played an effective role in the defense of the capital, Kyiv, at the beginning of the war, later in the counter-offensive in the Kharkiv region, and in Ukraine’s offensive into Russia’s Kursk region, and thanked Syrskyi for his service, saying: “We will formalize all these decisions tomorrow.”
