Kremlin announces Putin is ready to talk to Khamenei

Peskov: Putin is open to contacts with Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei.
elchi reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to contacts with Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. This was stated by the Russian leader’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov in an interview with TASS.
However, the Kremlin spokesman noted that no concrete agreements have been reached with the Iranian side on this matter yet.
On July 18, a source in Iran told the agency that Khamenei’s first international contact could be a phone call or a meeting with Putin. However, as long as the war with the US and Israel continues, the Ayatollah will not appear in public.
Mojtaba Khamenei became Iran’s Supreme Leader in early March 2026, following the death of his father, Ali Khamenei, in US and Israeli missile strikes. The US President called Khamenei “professional” and added that he has a “good reputation.” In early July, the new Ayatollah publicly vowed to avenge his father, as well as all those who died in the conflict with the US and Israel.
