The international community must respect the legitimate rights and interests of every individual country and must not allow a return to the era of the “law of the jungle”.
elchi reports that this was stated by the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, during a meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in Shanghai.
“We must uphold justice and the rule of law, because every country is an equal member of the international community; the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and legitimate rights and interests of every country must be respected. We must never allow the world to return to the era of the law of the jungle,” Xi Jinping said. According to him, the current international situation is unstable and chaotic, which requires the application of a true multilateral approach, as well as the revitalization of the status and role of the UN.
He noted the importance of commitment to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as the protection of the international system and rules established after the Second World War.
The Chinese leader stated that official Beijing is consistently taking concrete steps to find the right path for the peaceful coexistence of major powers, thereby bringing more stability and confidence to the world. He added that China will further deepen cooperation with the UN to promote peace and development in the world.
The meeting took place within the framework of the World Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20.
