As the State Maritime and Port Agency, we are deeply saddened by the news we have received in recent months regarding the deaths of Azerbaijani seafarers working on ships sailing under the flags of various countries in foreign waters.

The agency, considering the high security risks, especially in the Black and Azov Sea basins, as well as the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf, has called on Azerbaijani seafarers to prioritize their lives and health above all else:
“We recommend that they carefully assess the existing risks before agreeing to travel to war zones or areas where active military operations are being conducted, take into account the warnings and instructions of official authorities regarding safety, and avoid such trips whenever possible.
At the same time, we call on shipping companies and relevant organizations to consider the lives and safety of seafarers a priority, to take all security measures when sending them to regions with a high risk of war, and to avoid using such routes whenever possible.
We urge all our seafarers to be cautious, to think about the safety of themselves and their families, and to stay away from war zones.”
