President Ilham Aliyev: Trump sees peace as an opportunity

The article highlights that while answering a question from “Breitbart News,” President Ilham Aliyev placed special value on the role played by U.S. President Donald Trump in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The President stated that previous U.S. administrations preferred to keep the conflict in a frozen state for about thirty years instead of resolving it.

“Donald Trump is a peace-loving person. He sees peace as an opportunity,” President Ilham Aliyev said.

According to him, the Trump administration correctly understood Azerbaijan’s concerns, tried to convince the Armenian leadership that peace is beneficial for both states, and as a result, “created a framework that made peace possible.”

The White House summit was a decisive stage

President Ilham Aliyev also recalled the historic meeting held at the White House last August.

At that summit, U.S. President Donald Trump hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The leaders signed a Joint Declaration, and the foreign ministers initialed the peace agreement.

In addition, a joint U.S.-Azerbaijan working group was created to implement the agreement.

According to President Ilham Aliyev, this mechanism showed that Washington was serious about implementing the agreement.

“For the first time, Americans kept their word so precisely”

President Ilham Aliyev also specifically emphasized the approach demonstrated by the Trump administration in implementing the agreements:

“In my experience, it was the first time that American officials kept their word so precisely.”

According to the head of state, as a result of this, relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S. have entered a completely new stage.

Strategic partnership has risen to a new level

Criticism of previous administrations

President Ilham Aliyev noted that Joe Biden had supported sanctions against Azerbaijan when he was a senator, and this approach had negatively affected Washington-Baku relations for many years.

In his opinion, relations reached their “peak” and an “unprecedented level” during the Donald Trump era.

Thanks to Witkoff and Lightstone

At the end of his speech, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump and his team.
