Chair of the Milli Majlis meets with the Prime Minister of Palestine

Today, the Chair of the Milli Majlis, Sahiba Gafarova, met with the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, Mohammad Mustafa, who is on a visit to our country.

This was reported to “Elchi” by the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis.

Speaking about the friendly relations and cooperation based on mutual respect between Azerbaijan and Palestine, the Speaker of the Parliament noted that our countries are united by common religious, moral, and family values, as well as the existing friendly relations between our peoples. Emphasizing the important role of high-level visits and meetings in deepening interstate relations, the Chair of the Milli Majlis expressed her confidence that the current visit of the Palestinian Prime Minister to our country would make a significant contribution to the further development of relations and the expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan holds a principled position on the Palestinian issue, emphasizing that this position is consistently pursued within the framework of international organizations.

During the conversation, it was emphasized that the opening of the Representative Office of Azerbaijan in the city of Ramallah in 2023 was an important step in the development of bilateral relations.

Touching upon the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, Sahiba Gafarova noted that the Parliament of Azerbaijan cooperates effectively with the Palestinian National Council both in a bilateral format and within the framework of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the OIC Parliamentary Union (PUIC), the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, and the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network. Azerbaijan constantly keeps the Palestinian issue in the spotlight within the framework of international organizations and other multilateral platforms and approaches this issue with special sensitivity.

At the meeting, satisfaction was expressed regarding Palestinian students studying in Azerbaijan, and the favorable opportunities created for them by the “Heydar Aliyev International Education Grant” program were highly appreciated.

Mohammad Mustafa thanked the Azerbaijani state, its people, and the parliament for the consistent political, diplomatic, and humanitarian support provided on the Palestinian issue. Noting the importance of the meetings he held with the President and Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, the guest emphasized that the continuous support of the country’s leadership would never be forgotten by the Palestinian people. The Prime Minister also highly appreciated Azerbaijan’s contribution to international peace initiatives and stated that his country is committed to a fair and lasting peace based on the “two-state” principle.

Mohammad Mustafa pointed out that there is great potential to expand cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, education, and humanitarian affairs. In this context, he specifically mentioned the construction of a school in Palestine with the support of Azerbaijan and other joint projects.
