In the last five years, the number of people with autism syndrome in medical institutions in Azerbaijan has increased.
“Elchi” reports, citing Modern.az, that between 2021 and 2025, 13,676 people were diagnosed with autism syndrome.
According to statistics, the number of registered cases of childhood autism was 1,624 in 2021, 2,378 in 2022, 3,029 in 2023, 3,112 in 2024, and 3,533 in 2025. The number of registered cases of atypical autism was 55, 64, 86, 103, and 123, respectively.
The figures clearly show that childhood autism has more than doubled in the last five years.
In 2025, the number of males in this category increased from 1,284 to 2,765, and the number of females increased from 340 to 768.
Based on age distribution, the number of registered individuals in the 0-13 age group increased from 1,227 to 2,726, in the 14-17 age group from 385 to 749, and in the 18 and older age group from 12 to 58.
The number of registered cases of atypical autism has also increased. Specifically, the figure, which was 55 in 2021, rose to 123 in 2025.
During this period, the number of males increased from 40 to 104, while the number of females increased from 15 to 19.
By age group, the number of registered individuals aged 0-13 rose from 35 to 80, and in the 14-17 age group from 19 to 43.
In the 18 and older age group, although 1 person was registered each year from 2021 to 2023, no registrations were recorded for this age category in 2024 and 2025.
