Two days of US-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel concluded in Rome today.

A US representative stated that the parties have made progress in implementing the plan, according to which Israeli troops could begin withdrawing from “pilot zones” in southern Lebanon within a few days.
This is the sixth round of talks between the two countries since the escalation of the conflict between Israel and the Lebanese group “Hezbollah” on March 2.
In accordance with the framework agreement concluded on June 26 with US mediation, Lebanon and Israel agreed to implement a “pilot zone” project, which provides for the disarmament of armed groups, as well as the gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops from the south of the country and the deployment of Lebanese government forces there.
The source described the talks as “productive and positive”: “We have agreed on the structure and operating principles of the pilot zone, which will be finalized and implemented in the coming days.”
According to the official, the talks will move to a technical phase to implement the framework agreement and reach a comprehensive deal between Israel and Lebanon.
Neither Lebanon nor Israel has yet commented on the progress made during the talks.
