Police have arrested nearly 8,000 people since protests began in France

Since students began protesting across the country, law enforcement officers have arrested approximately 8,000 people in France.

According to information provided by elchi, citing BFMTV, the country’s Ministry of Justice announced this.

According to the institution, the number of detainees is currently 7,950.

The vast majority of those arrested – 85 percent – are minors. Of the 26 people for whom pre-trial detention has been ordered, 65 percent have reached the age of majority.

The protests by high school students began at the end of September in the Île-de-France region and quickly spread throughout France.

Protesters are protesting the shortage of teachers and the excessive workload of class schedules. However, in some regions, the demonstrations have turned into riots and clashes with the police.
