Iran aims to expand energy cooperation with Russia. The Tehran government plans to import electricity from Russia’s southern regions via Azerbaijani territory.

It was stated that the issue was discussed during a meeting between Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Tsivilyov in Tehran.
The parties agreed to establish a joint working group to take concrete steps toward synchronizing energy grids.
The construction of the Sirik Thermal Power Plant (TPP) located in southern Iran was also a focus of the meeting.
