CENTCOM: US forces have carried out a series of strikes on military targets in Iran.
“Elchi” reports that the US military has launched another strike on targets in Iran. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced this on social media.
It is reported that dozens of targets were hit in several regions of the country during the operation. According to the Command, the strikes were carried out using precision-guided munitions to weaken Iran’s ability to continue attacks on international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM stated that fighter jets, ships, and unmanned aerial vehicles participated in the operation. The targets hit included air defense systems, coastal radar stations, and boats. According to Washington, these measures are aimed at reducing Iran’s military potential used to threaten international shipping in the region. Prior to this, US military forces shot down an Iranian cruise missile and a drone fired toward the Strait of Hormuz. A few hours earlier, the state-owned IRIB television channel reported that several explosions had occurred on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. The details of the incident were not disclosed.
On June 17, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on a temporary truce, which provided for the cessation of military operations and the start of a new round of negotiations. On July 8, following the resumption of attacks, the White House announced that the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran was no longer in effect.
