“Middle East Eye”: Turkey plans to sell S-400 systems to the UAE

Moscow views the potential sale of Russian-made S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems by Turkey to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) positively, but negotiations on this matter have not yet been concluded.

“Elchi” reports, citing the “Middle East Eye” publication, that several sources familiar with the progress of the discussions have informed the outlet about this.

Turkey purchased Russia’s S-400 systems in 2019. This deal led to Ankara’s removal from the fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet production and supply program, as well as the imposition of sanctions by the US against Turkey’s defense industry.

The Kremlin has confirmed reports regarding consultations held with Turkey concerning the potential sale of the systems to a third country. Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov called the matter extremely sensitive and stated that discussions would continue.

“Moscow’s response to the idea of Turkey selling the systems to a third country was: why not? There are some details that need to be worked out, and the final decision must be made by Russian President Vladimir Putin,” a Russian source said.

Turkish sources noted that the UAE already operates some Russian air defense systems, including “Pantsir” complexes.
