Former Minister Fedorov: The call for elections in Ukraine is not directed against Zelensky.
elchi reports that former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov stated in an interview with the Financial Times that the call for elections is not directed against the current head of state, Volodymyr Zelensky.
“This is not against Zelensky, not against any specific person. The point is that we… must update the state’s operating system,” Fedorov said.
On August 18, Fedorov declared a governance crisis in Ukraine and called for presidential and parliamentary elections. The former minister emphasized that the government should serve the country, not itself, and that an election campaign is necessary to restore the democratic process.
In July, Zelensky dismissed Fedorov from his post. According to media reports, one of the reasons for the defense minister’s dismissal was his conflict with the former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi. However, according to Fedorov himself, the decision to remove him from his post was made in connection with procurement reform in the military department.
