On June 24, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received a delegation led by the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
elchi reports that President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the brotherly Iranian people have suffered greatly in recent times and once again prayed for God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in the war.
Stating that the people and the state of Azerbaijan stood by the people and the state of Iran during the war, President Ilham Aliyev assessed his telephone conversations with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, as well as other contacts at various levels and examples of solidarity, as a clear indication of this.
Emphasizing that the cessation of the war was welcomed with joy by the Azerbaijani side, the head of our state recalled that an official statement was immediately issued by our country in this regard.
“I wish that there would be no war in the region,” said President Ilham Aliyev, noting that both Azerbaijan and Iran have suffered from wars in the past.
Recalling with pleasure Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s previous visit to our country, the head of state touched upon the importance of his participation in the 20th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States.
Expressing his hope that this event will contribute to the development of Islamic solidarity, President Ilham Aliyev said that our country will host the OIC Summit next year and noted that preparatory work in this regard has already begun.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s visit will also create a good opportunity to discuss issues related to our bilateral agenda.
The head of state also touched upon the successful development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations.
Expressing his pleasure at the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev, the guest conveyed the greetings of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, to the head of our state.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked to convey his own greetings to Masoud Pezeshkian.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf expressed his gratitude for the support shown by President Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani state, and the people during Iran’s difficult days.
The guest also thanked the head of our state for visiting the Iranian Embassy in our country to offer condolences regarding the death of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and many civilians, as well as for the congratulatory letter sent to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei on his election as the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Stating that war is a great sorrow and tragedy, the guest emphasized that during that period, our country remained committed to friendly neighborly relations with Iran, did not spare its humanitarian aid, and that the Azerbaijani people stood by Iran, noting that this will remain in the memory of the Iranian people forever.
Stating that Azerbaijan and Iran have always stood by each other even in difficult days, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf assessed this as another example of the unity and solidarity of our countries. The guest stated that this war also showed Iran how important contacts with Muslim countries are. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf noted that Iran recognized its friends and enemies during the war. In this regard, as a friendly country, Azerbaijan stood by Iran.
During the conversation, confidence was expressed in the further dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Iran relations in the future, and it was noted with satisfaction that the construction of the Aghband-Kalala bridge has already been completed and that the Araz corridor passing through the territory of Iran will also serve to increase transport opportunities in the region.
At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the prospects of our bilateral relations, including issues related to inter-parliamentary cooperation, and the activities of the intergovernmental commission were touched upon.
