The New Delhi court has rejected Telegram’s appeal against the temporary blocking of its service in India and upheld the authorities’ decision to ban the platform’s operations until June 22.
“Elchi” reports that this information was provided by the Reuters agency.
The restrictions were imposed by India’s Ministry of Information Technology amid concerns over potential fraud schemes surrounding the upcoming nationwide medical entrance exam. Authorities stated that channels offering leaked versions of exam questions for money had spread on Telegram.
Delhi High Court Judge Tejas Karia ruled that the government’s decision was justified and made in accordance with established legal procedures.
The ban has led to the shutdown of Telegram servers in the country and the removal of the application from Google and Apple stores.
India remains the largest market for Telegram, with the number of platform users in the country exceeding 150 million. According to the company, Telegram had previously removed over 900 links containing content related to the leakage of exam questions.
