Tehran’s position on Lebanon may have been the reason for Washington postponing Vice President J.D. Vance’s trip to Switzerland to attend the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.
“Elchi” reports that Barak Ravid, a correspondent for the US portal “Axios” and Israel’s Channel 12, shared this information on the “X” social network.
Vance’s representative had previously stated that the Vice President was not planning to travel to Switzerland to attend the ceremony in question or to begin negotiations on technical issues between the parties. According to Ravid, citing a source among US officials, “one of the reasons for the postponement may have been the Iranians’ demands regarding the internal situation in Lebanon.”
Tehran had declared that it would consider any new Israeli attack on Lebanon as a violation of the provisions of the memorandum of understanding to be signed with the US.
Vance had previously stated that the signing ceremony for the memorandum would most likely take place over the weekend. He emphasized that this largely depended on the Iranian side.
