The death toll from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck the Mindanao region in the southern Philippines on June 8 has reached 78.
“Elchi” reports that, according to the Manila-based “Inquirer” newspaper, officials have stated that the number of deaths resulting from the earthquake in Mindanao has increased.
Officials reported that the death toll has reached 78, with 1,339 people injured and 30 missing.
Officials stated that approximately 1.5 million people have been affected by the earthquake.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Mindanao on June 8 and stated that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 55.2 kilometers. Large-scale earthquakes frequently occur in the Philippines, which is located in the earthquake and volcanic belt known as the “Pacific Ring of Fire”.
